Mirakl is a civic association founded in 2016, specializing in the development and production of documentary films. With the film "Yours Sincerely, Social System" it gained valuable experience in independent production. In 2019, the team was enriched by artist Sun Yi-Jou, making Mirakl a unique Slovak-Taiwanese family association connecting diverse cultural perspectives and innovations in film creation.
Martin Tokar is an experienced documentarian and educator from Michalovce. He studied documentary filmmaking at the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU) and imparts his expertise to students at the Private School of Film Arts. He is the author of notable documentaries such as "Yours Sincerely, Social System" and "Medzilaborce 1914/1915: Forgotten Diaries." His work is enriched by experiences from exhibitions in Taiwan and scholarly essays, including those on the representation of Ruthenians in Slovak cinema. Tokár has also worked as a cameraman and director for RTVS and TV Markiza.
Sun Yi-Jou is an artist from Taipei, Taiwan, specializing in performance art, mixed media, and public interventions. She holds an M.F.A. in Fine Arts from Taipei National University of the Arts. In 2013, the Taiwan Contemporary Art Archive recognized her as one of Taiwan's prominent performance artists. Her works have been showcased at prestigious events such as the "Subzoology: 2020 Taiwan Biennial" and the "9th Shanghai Biennale." She has also presented her art at international festivals spanning from Thailand to Slovakia, earning acclaim for her innovative approaches
Nikolas Yves Ogou, an African man from Benin, lives in the southeastern Slovak village of Somotor and works as a social worker. Despite being a foreigner in this country, he dedicates himself to helping local residents navigate the often convoluted social system. For many of these people, who frequently struggle to understand the system and feel lost within it, Nikolas represents their sole beacon of hope. He acts as their advocate, their legal representative, and their closest confidant. The residents frequently encounter bizarre and absurd situations, misunderstandings, and a lack of comprehension of bureaucratic language, which lead to significant issues. In these moments, Nikolas steps in, fighting tirelessly to help them emerge from their dire circumstances
One day, an American emigrant of Russian origin arrives in Michalovce to search for the grave of his grandfather – a Hero of the Soviet Union who died during the Dargov battles in World War II.
He buys lawnmowers for the local greenery management of Michalovce so they can better maintain the Red Army cemetery. He donates a scooter to the municipal police to help them respond more quickly to violations of the ban on walking dogs in the cemetery. To the local Orthodox Church, he donates 12 bells – the first rings for God, the second for the fallen soldiers, and the third bears the name Alexander, after its donor.
